CGU’s Doctor of Ministry program is a terminal degree program for individuals interested in pursuing advanced research, scholarship, and leadership in Christian theology and ministry. The program allows students to engage in advanced study of the Bible, theology, church history, and pastoral ministry.

The program requires students to complete advanced coursework in biblical languages, theology, church history, ethics, and pastoral ministry. Students will also be required to complete an extensive research project, allowing them to contribute significantly to the field of Christian theology.

Our Doctor of Ministry program is designed for students who have already earned a Master’s in a related field of study. Students in the program will be expected to have a strong foundation in Christian theology and ministry and to be able to engage in advanced research and scholarship.

Graduates of a Doctor of Ministry program are prepared to pursue various roles in Christian ministry and academia. These roles may include teaching at the college or university level, serving as a pastor or chaplain, working in research or academic administration, or making a significant contribution to Christian scholarship.

Each of the courses in this program are 3-units, with exception to the doctoral project which is 6-units. The total number of credit units for the Doctor of Ministry is 54-units.

  1. Advanced Old Testament Studies: This course will provide an advanced study of the Old Testament’s history, literature, and theology.
  2. Advanced New Testament Studies: This course will provide advanced study in the history, literature, and theology of the New Testament.
  3. Advanced Systematic Theology: This course will explore advanced theological concepts and doctrines, including the doctrine of God, the Trinity, and Christology.
  4. Advanced Church History: This course will provide an advanced study in the history of the Christian Church, including its development, influence, and impact on society.
  5. Advanced Ethics: This course will explore advanced ethical issues related to Christianity, including moral philosophy and contemporary ethical debates.
  6. Homiletics and Preaching: This course will provide advanced study and practical skills in preaching and teaching in religious settings.
  7. Advanced Pastoral Care and Counseling: This course will provide advanced study in pastoral care and counseling, including advanced counseling techniques and strategies.
  8. Apologetics and Christian Witness: This course will explore advanced strategies for defending the Christian faith and sharing the Gospel.
  9. Contemporary Theology and Culture: This course will explore the intersection of Christian theology and modern culture, including issues related to globalization, technology, and social justice.
  10. Advanced Missions and Evangelism: This course will provide advanced study in global missions and evangelism, including strategies for working with diverse cultures and communities.
  11. Interdisciplinary Approaches to Christian Studies: This course will explore multidisciplinary approaches to Christian studies, including integrating theology, psychology, and social sciences.
  12. Advanced Research Methods: This course will provide advanced study in research methods, including qualitative and quantitative research methods and data analysis.
  13. Theological Writing and Publishing: This course will provide advanced study in writing and publishing theological research and scholarship.
  14. Contemporary Issues in Christian Leadership: This course will explore current issues in Christian leadership, including challenges related to diversity, inclusion, and globalization.
  15. Advanced Homiletics: This course will provide advanced study and practical skills in homiletics, including preparing and delivering advanced sermons.
  16. Advanced Pastoral Theology: This course will explore progressive theological perspectives related to pastoral care, including issues related to grief, trauma, and counseling.
  17. Research Project (6 units): This final assessment will require students to conduct original research in an area of interest within Christian theology or ministry and to make a significant contribution to the field of Christian scholarship.

Tuition for the D.Min is $250 per credit unit or $13,500 USD or $4,500 USD per year.
